John the Ripper is one of Password Cracker spywares.
Password cracker for Unix that will run in DOS [some versions] or Windows [some versions]. While password crackers are not always used for good, this type of password cracker would require access to the /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow file. These files are always define by default to read/write mode for SUID 0 only unless given to another user by the root user. Finding it on your computer means that your computer is infected with Password Cracker and crucial data could be endangered or even lost.

Are you kidding John the Ripper is only dangerous if you dont understand what it is doing. Ofcourse any spyware removal programs are gonna pick it up as dangerous it uses your security faults to find the easiest way to brute the desired password... |
